Fun Facts: Lady Bird Lake

Lady Bird Lake was named after First Lady Lady Bird Johnson, who helped beautify the area and preserve its natural charm.
This calm reservoir was created in 1960 on the Colorado River and sits right in the middle of downtown Austin.
The Ann and Roy Butler Hike-and-Bike Trail is a 10-mile loop that’s perfect for walking, running, or cycling with skyline and lake views.
Though swimming isn’t allowed, kayaking and paddleboarding are popular ways to enjoy the water.
Each evening, over 1.5 million bats fly out from under the Congress Avenue Bridge — a one-of-a-kind Austin spectacle!
The trail passes Zilker Park, cultural spots, and plenty of chances to see local wildlife like turtles and herons.
